Out of the blue, Marvin Boggs meets Frank in the supermarket and tells that Wikileaks has released the information that they had participated and know the whereabouts of the Nightshade, a portable nuclear weapon that was smuggled in pieces and hidden in Russia. Now the top agents in the world are under contract to seek them out to discover where Nightshade is. The trio travels to Paris and teams-up with the Russian Katja to track down the former Russian Agent 'The Frog' to get more information about the operation. They learn that the brilliant inventor Dr. Edward Bailey might know where the weapon is. They discover that Bailey has been interned in an asylum in London by the MI-6 for thirty-two years and the British Victoria joins the team. They rescue Bailey and find that the nuclear device is hidden in the Kremlin. Soon the dangerous South Korean Han joins the group expecting to retrieve the weapon. But dangerous killer Jack Horton is hunting Frank down and will not stop until he recovers the nuclear bomb.

Sequels. Sadly most of them are just excuses for lame opportunities to cash in again. This is just that.<br/><br/>You know a movie is going to be bad when Anthony Hopkins dials in a terrible performance. His over the top and dial by numbers character isn't believable from the moment he enters. This is a dial it in buddy buddy film, where every scene is predictable in that it will introduce yet another character or a familiar old face just at the right difficult moment. Plot is irrelevant. Make it upyou go along. Just stick to the same formula repeatedly. <br/><br/>If you loved RED, you might be amused by the sequel. Just be aware it's more of the same, more unoriginal and the characters you love will need to be around for the next sequel. I give it a generous 5 for some reasonable efforts, a high production value and the immense talent that is wasted in this farce.
This film is about the missions of a bunch of retired ex-spies who are still extremely dangerous.<br/><br/>It's refreshing to have an action comedy! It's not easy to have all the killings and explosions happening, and yet maintaining a light hearted and fun tone. "Red 2" succeeds again in reaching the balance, making it enjoyable and fun. There are many cool scenes suchHelen Mirren firing guns with both hands towards opposite directions from a car. Mary Louise Parker's character is also fun, she seems not to know how to do anything but she is still so cool and funny. It's nice to see an action film having a big female presence, it's such a pleasant change. All the characters I enjoyed watching "Red 2", and maybe there will be another sequel?
Red 2 goes down easily, from Marvin’s demented moments of relationship advice to Dame Helen’s tender and amusing “Hitchcock” reunion with Sir Anthony. There’s a knowing twinkle in their eyes, and in everybody else’s. “Yeah, we could’ve done a Bond film,” they seem to wink. “And it would’ve been a bloody fun one, at that.”
Ex-black ops CIA agents Frank Moses (<a href="/name/nm0000246/">Bruce Willis</a>) and Marvin Boggs (<a href="/name/nm0000518/">John Malkovich</a>) , now considered RED (Retired, Extremely Dangerous), reunite with retired MI6 sharpshooter Victoria Winsler (<a href="/name/nm0000545/">Helen Mirren</a>) to track down Nightshade, a portable nuclear weapon smuggled in pieces and hidden in the Russian Kremlin by physicist Edward Bailey (<a href="/name/nm0000164/">Anthony Hopkins</a>), whom MI6 has kept incarcerated in a London asylum for the past 32 years. Aided by Frank's girlfriend Sarah (<a href="/name/nm0000571/">Mary-Louise Parker</a>) and Russian secret agent Katja Petrocovich (<a href="/name/nm0001876/">Catherine Zeta-Jones</a>), the five attempt to retrieve the Nightshade device while dodging South Korean contract killer Han Cho Bai (<a href="/name/nm0496932/">Byung-Hun Lee</a>) and Pentagon agent Jack Horton (<a href="/name/nm0568180/">Neal McDonough</a>). RED 2 is the sequel to <a href="/title/tt1245526/">RED (2010)</a> (2010), which is based on a comic book written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner. The screenplay for RED 2 was written by screenwriter brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber. Marvin fires the AK at general area of the helicopter (notice that he doesn't really aim down the sights, he isn't trying to shoot it down or damage it) so it would retreat and get outside the explosion radius. He's making them run away so they survive the incoming explosion. Carrying the activated Nightshade bomb, Frank boards the plane where Bailey is holding Sarah hostage. Bailey releases Sarah but orders Frank to get off the plane and take the bomb with him. Frank complies and joins Marvin, Victoria, and Han on the tarmac. As Bailey's plane takes off, they await the explosion of the bomb. With only four seconds left, Bailey discovers that the bomb has been hidden on his plane, and the plane goes up in a massive explosion. Frank reveals the empty bomb casing, indicating that he planted the bomb on the plane sometime before he faced Bailey. Incensed at losing his plane, Han says that Frank owes him $30 million for the plane and $20 million for not killing him. While walking away with Sarah, Frank replies, "All right". In the final scene, Sarah is shown jazzing it up on a mission in Caracas while Frank and Marvin (in drag) watch.
